4. VSV Lever Arm (IGV thru 5th-Stage) Installation

B. Procedure
SUBTASK 72-35-00-018-026-G00
(1) Make sure the task "Preparation for VSV Repairs" has been done.

(2) Install the 5th-Stage lever arm as follows:
(a) Install the lever arm [3] and the locknut [1].
(b) Tighten the locknut to 90-100 pound-inches (10.2-11.3 newton-meters).

(3) Install the IGV thru 4th-Stage lever arm as follows:
(a) Install the lever arm [3], sleeve [4] and locknut [1].
1) Align the identification marks.
CAUTION
YOU MUST REPLACE THE LOCKNUT IF THE RUN-ON TORQUE IS LESS
THAN 5 IN-LB (0.6 N.M) OR IF MORE THAN 40 IN-LB (4.5 N.M). IF THE
LOCKNUT RUN-ON TORQUE IS NOT CORRECT, DAMAGE TO THE
ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(b) Remove the lockwire and tighten the locknut to run-on torque.
1) If the run-on torque is less than 5 pound-inches (0.6 newton-meters) or more than
40 pound-inches (4.5 newton-meters), replace the nut.
(c) On IGV, 1st- and 2nd-stage lever arms; tighten the locknut to 50-60 pound-inches
(5.7-6.8 newton-meters).
(d) On 3rd- and 4th-stage lever arms; tighten the locknut to 85-95 pound-inches (9.6-10.8
newton-meters).
(e) Do a check of the vane assembly to make sure that a small movement is possible.
1) Hold the vane between your thumb and forefinger, and try to move the vane.
2) You must feel a very small movement of the vane.
a) If you do not feel a small movement of the vane, do the steps to install the
lever arm again.

(4) If no more work will be done at this time, do the task "Put the Airplane to its Usual Condition
After VSV Repairs".
