G. Find the Balance Correction Weight (W1)

(1) Use the Matrix of LPT Center Blade Locations (Figure 504) to find the LPT center blade
location to install the balance clips.
Example: Phase Angle (Ao) = 160 degrees Amplitude (Uo) = 1.5 mils Fan Speed (N1) = 3200

(a) From Figure 504, LPT blade number 65 is the center blade location to install the balance
clips.

(2) Use the Table of Related LPT and Fan Blade Positions (Figure 505) to find the fan blade at the
same angular position as the LPT center blade.
NOTE: You will turn the fan blades to position the LPT blades for balance clip installation.
Example: For LPT blade number 65, fan blade number 26 is at the
same angular position.

(3) Use the Balance Correction Weight Table (Figure 507) to find the balance correction weight
(W1) from the vibration amplitude (Uo).
Example: From Figure 507, (Uo)=1.5 mils at 3200 rpm, so the balance correction weight (W1)
is 488 gram-inches.
(a) Calculate the number of balance clips that are required.
NOTE: Each balance clip is equal to 95 gram-inches.
Example: (488 gm-in.) / (95 gm-in. per clip) = 5 clips

(4) Use the Clip Distribution Table (Figure 507) to find the LPT blade locations to install the
balance clips with Tool, SPL-13247.
NOTE: A maximum of seven clips may be installed on the low pressure turbine blades.
Example: For the five clips calculated above, one clip is installed
on the center blade location. One clip is installed on
each of the two blades to the left and the two blades to
the right of the center blade location.
