DO NOT LET THE BIRD CARCASS OR OTHER PIECES OF THE BIRD TOUCH
YOUR SKIN. DISCARD THE BIRD PIECES IN A PLASTIC DISPOSAL BAG.
THE BIRD PIECES CAN CONTAIN INFECTIOUS MATERIALS (BACTERIA AND
VIRUSES). THEY CAN CAUSE ILLNESSES, AND INJURIES TO PERSONNEL.
(1) If you find signs of a birdstrike, follow these steps before you continue:
(a) Before you touch any of the bird remains, put on protective equipment.
(b) Wear protective gloves, G50140 below the usual cut-resistant gloves.
(c) Use the protective filtering facepiece, STD-1136 and eye protection goggles, STD-421.
(d) Use coverall (approved cotton substitute), STD-1129 if there is risk of body contact with
the bird remains.

DO NOT USE AIR OR WATER PRESSURE TO CLEAN THE BIRD PIECES
FROM THE ENGINE. THE BIRD PIECES CAN CONTAIN INFECTIOUS
MATERIAL (BACTERIA AND VIRUSES). THEY CAN CAUSE ILLNESSES,
AND INJURIES TO PERSONNEL.
(e) Clean the area of the birdstrike as follows:
1) Clean the area with hot soapy water or moisten an absorbent, lint-free cloth,
G02383 [OMat 2/101] with isopropyl alcohol, B01056 [P11-014A].
2) Do not use pressurized air or water to clean the engine parts of bird remains.
a) The use of high-pressure sprays can cause possibly infectious aerosols or
mists.
3) If you used tools to remove the bird remains, clean the tools with hot soapy water or
an absorbent, lint-free cloth, G02383 [OMat 2/101] with isopropyl alcohol, B01056
[P11-014A].
4) Keep the protective gloves, G50140 away from your face, eyes and nose.
5) Remove and put the protective gloves, G50140 and disposable coverall into the
hermetically sealed plastic bag, G00624.
6) Discard the bag correctly.
7) Wash your hands with soap and water.

(3) If there is an indication that the foreign object has gone into the engine bypass stream (not
through the engine core), do a fan area visual inspection (paragraph (4) below).

(4) If you think there has been foreign object ingestion, bird ingestion, evidence of damage to the
fan/core inlet areas, evidence of damage to the exhaust area, or if there is a shift in engine
performance (i.e increase in EGT), do a fan area visual inspection and a core engine area
visual and borescope inspection.

(5) Visual inspection, look for the conditions that follow:
(a) Do a check of the general condition of the fan blades (TASK 72-31-02-226-007-G00).
