(1) Do the task to remove the No. 1 bearing manifold.
SUBTASK 72-31-00-022-014-G00
(2) Do the steps that follow to remove the center vent tube (Figure 202):
(a) Use the retaining ring pliers, SPL-12858 to remove the locking tab ring at the coupling
nut.
(b) Use the center vent tube wrench, SPL-6711 for the center vent duct to remove the center
vent tube from the fan mid shaft.
NOTE: You have to attach one or more 3/4-inch drive extensions to the wrench. A total
extension length of 2.5-3.0 feet (760-900 mm) is necessary.
(c) Remove and discard the packings from the three integral supports on the center vent
tube.
(d) Remove and discard the four vespel inserts.

(e) If the center vent tube has an extension, remove and discard the two preformed packings
(or static seals) at the rear of the center vent tube.

(f) If the center vent tube does not have an extension, remove and discard one preformed
packing at the rear end of the center vent tube.

(3) Look for puddles of oil in the fan midshaft (Figure 202).
