F. Borescope Inspection of Engine Stages 1-14
SUBTASK 72-00-00-986-002-G00
(1) Turn the N2 rotor at the accessory gearbox (PAGEBLOCK 72-00-00/201).
NOTE: It is recommended that you turn the N2 rotor, then stop to examine the blade with a
borescope. After you examine the condition of the blade, turn the N2 rotor, then stop
again to examine the next blade.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-016-160-G00
CAUTION
BEFORE YOU USE THE BORESCOPE, MAKE SURE THAT THE
TEMPERATURES OF THE INSPECTION AREAS ARE BELOW 150°F (66°C). IF
THE ADJACENT CASES ARE TOO HOT TO KEEP YOUR HAND ON, THE
INSPECTION AREAS ARE TOO HOT. IF THE INSPECTION AREA IS TOO HOT,
DAMAGE TO THE BORESCOPE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION
PUT A LABEL ON THE BORESCOPE PLUGS. ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR
IF THE BORESCOPE PLUGS ARE NOT INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT
LOCATION.
(2) Remove the borescope plugs B1-0, B1-1, B1-6, and B1-11 (Figure 601).
NOTE: Borescope ports B1-0 and B1-1 are used to view stage 1 and borescope port B1-12 is
used to view stage 12.
NOTE: Usually, it is only necessary to remove the B1-0, B1-1, B1-6, and B1-11 plugs. If it is
necessary (for a better view), you can remove more borescope plugs.
NOTE: If you cannot loosen and remove the referenced borescope plug, you can do the
borescope inspection through an adjacent port.
(a) Put labels on the borescope plugs that you removed.

(3) Use the table that follows as a reference for torque values when you tighten the plugs when
they are installed:
Table 601/72-00-00-993-803-G00
PLUG/PORT TORQUE VALUE
B1-0 thru B1-13 40-60 pound-inches (4.5-6.8 Newton meters)
CLAMP-ON MANIFOLD 90-100 pound-inches (10.2-11.3 Newton meters)
B2-1 thru B2-6 140-160 pound-inches (15.8-18.1 Newton meters)
B3-1 thru B3-2 50-60 pound-inches (5.7-6.8 Newton meters)
B4-1; B4-4: B4-9 55-70 pound-inches (6.2-7.9 Newton meters)
B4-2 AND B4-3
B4-5 THRU B4-11
70-80 pound-inches (7.9-9.0 Newton meters)
B5-2 thru B5-4 140-160 pound-inches (15.8-18.1 Newton meters)
SUBTASK 72-00-00-296-154-G00
(4) Use the intrinsically safe borescope, COM-5661 to visually examine the stage 1-14
compressor blades (Figure 602, Figure 603) for the conditions that follow:
NOTE: If it is necessary, you can examine the fan rotor blades without a borescope
(PAGEBLOCK 72-31-02/601).
