A. This procedure gives the instructions on how to examine the horizontal drive shaft. You will only
examine the external area of the drive shaft housing.

(1) Open the fan cowl panels (PAGEBLOCK 71-11-00/001).

WARNING
DO THE THRUST REVERSER DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT
THE OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL
OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO
PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(2) Do this procedure: Thrust Reverser Deactivation for Ground Maintenance
(PAGEBLOCK 78-31-00/201).

(3) Open the core cowl panels (PAGEBLOCK 71-11-06/201).

WARNING
OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(4) Open the thrust reversers (PAGEBLOCK 78-31-00/201).

(5) Examine the external area of the drive shaft housing. If it is necessary, use the fluorescent
penetrant inspection (PAGEBLOCK 70-11-06/201) to see the cracks more clearly.
