(4) Install the seal pressurizing fixture as follows:
(a) Lubricate the three preformed packings on the seal pressurizing fixture.
NOTE: The packings on the seal pressurizing fixture are the same as the packings on
the starter.
(b) Install the pressurizing fixture, SPL-5652 through the starter pad gearshaft and into the
horizontal driveshaft housing.
(c) Use the V-band clamp for the starter to attach the seal pressurizing fixture to the starter
pad.
(d) Turn the tightening handles clockwise to extend the seal internal to the horizontal
driveshaft.
(e) Attach the pressure gage and the regulator to the mounting plate on the seal pressurizing
fixture.

(5) Disconnect the carbon seal drain tubes from the accessory gearbox.

(6) Replace the drain tubes with flexible hoses.

(7) Put the ends of the hoses into the buckets of water.

WARNING
DO NOT USE AN OXYGEN BOTTLE AS A PRESSURIZED SOURCE. OXYGEN
CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSIVE CONDITION. INJURY TO PERSONS AND
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(8) Attach a source of dry air or nitrogen to the fitting on the regulator.

(9) Do the leakage test as follows:
(a) Supply a pressure of 10-11 psig (68.9-75.8 kPa).
(b) Make a record of the rate of bubbles in the water buckets.
(c) A bubble rate of 1 to 15 bubbles each minute is permitted.
NOTE: A high bubble rate shows that a seal does not have its oil, D00096 lubrication, or
it is not seated to its mating ring.
(d) A bubble rate of more than 15 bubbles each minute is not permitted.
(e) Replace the carbon seal (PAGEBLOCK 72-61-02/401) and the mating ring if it is
necessary.
1) Do again the leakage test.

(10) Remove the flexible hoses.

(11) Remove the seal pressuring fixture, pressure gage, and the regulator from the accessory
gearbox.

(12) Install the horizontal driveshaft (PAGEBLOCK 72-63-01/401).
