(1) The gamma ray radiographic inspection procedure can be used to find mechanical condition of
an internal engine component without engine disassembly.

6. Ultrasonic Inspection
A. General
(1) The ultrasonic inspection is used to find cracks in the dovetails of the 6th and 7th-stage
compressor blades without engine dissassembly.
(2) Refer to the G.E., CF6-80A Turbofan Engine, Nondestructive Test Manual, Part 4 Ultrasonic
Inspection, for the ultrasonic inspection procedures.

7. Inspection of Engines Involved in Accidents or Incidents
A. General
(1) If an engine has had an accident, incident or other unusual exposure, you must follow special
inspection and parts disposition.
An engine exposed to unusual conditions could have to follow special inspection and parts
dispositions that are more than the regular operation limits. Some of the unusual incidents are:
(a) Shock loading, collision, crash damage, separation from the aircraft, handling or
transportation accident.
(b) Structural overstress to the engine structure that holds the weight of the aircraft during a
failure or separation of the landing gear.
