(a) Drill a hole at each end of the crack with a 0.093 inch (2.36 mm) diameter drill-bit (to stop
the crack).
(b) Make a doubler to repair the cracked T-shaped rib.
WARNING
DO NOT GET METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR MOUTH OR
EYES, OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM MEK.
PUT ON A RESPIRATOR, PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLES, AND
GLOVES WHEN YOU USE MEK. KEEP MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS,
FLAME, AND HEAT. MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT
WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(c) Use the solvent, B00148 to clean the doubler and the forward side of the rib that has a
crack.
(d) Apply a layer of Hysol EA 934NA adhesive paste, A01059 [C01-011] to the aft side of the
doubler.
(e) Install the doubler on the forward side of the cracked rib.
NOTE: Make sure to put the doubler directly along the crack. Use longer bolts to make
sure that 1-1/2 to 5 threads show through the doubler when you install the bolts.

(4) Repair the casing skin cracks:
WARNING

WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(a) Clean the repair area with the solvent, B00148.
(b) Remove the fan blades necessary to give a sufficient work area
(PAGEBLOCK 72-31-02/401).
(c) Remove the acoustic panel that is below the repair area (PAGEBLOCK 72-33-01/801).
(d) Make a doubler with stainless steel sheet, G50511 and these specifications:
1) Make the doubler 0.060 inch (1.52 mm) thick
2) The doubler must extend 3 inches (76 mm) beyond the crack
3) Drill holes in the doubler 1 inch (25 mm) apart
4) Drill the holes 5/32 inch (0.160/0.164 inch) (4.06/4.17 mm) in diameter.
NOTE: The skin thickness in the casing in the rib area is 0.140/0.160 inch
(3.56/4.06 mm) thick.
(e) Make the casing skin rough with the emery cloth, G00744 (to make sure there will be a
good bond).
(f) Clean the surface with solvent, B00148.
(g) Mix the epoxy resin adhesive.
(h) Apply a 1/64 inch (0.4 mm) layer of the adhesive to the surface of the doubler to bond it
with the casing.
