G. Remove the Adapter

CAUTION
REMOVE THE ADAPTER VERY CAREFULLY. IT IS EASY TO CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE GEARS AND THE BEARING WHEN YOU REMOVE THE
ADAPTER. DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(1) Remove the applicable bolts, washers and the shoulder studs that hold the adapter to the
accessory gearbox (Figure 403).

(2) Use the jackscrews, STD-6422 to remove the adapter from the gearbox.

(3) Put the adapter in a protective container.

(4) Cover the opening in the gearbox with protective material.

(5) If it is necessary, do the steps that follow to remove the bearing housing from the gearbox
(Figure 404).
(a) Remove the nuts that hold the bearing housing to the gearbox.
(b) Use a heat gun, STD-6554 to apply heat to the gearbox area around the bearing housing.
CAUTION
KEEP THE INNER RACE AND THE OUTER RACE OF THE BEARING
HOUSING TOGETHER. THE OUTER RACE AND THE INNER RACE OF
THE ROLLER BEARING HOUSING HAVE THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER.
DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR IF THE INNER AND THE OUTER
RACE DO NOT HAVE THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER.
(c) Use the bearing housing puller to remove the bearing housing (Figure 405).

(6) Put the bearing housing assembly in a protective container.

(7) Put greaseproof paper, G50258 [C10-009] over the opening in the gearbox.
