G. Fan Rotor Blades Inspection
SUBTASK 72-31-02-226-003-G00
(1) Examine the First-Stage Fan Rotor Blades for the conditions that follow:
(a) Cracks or tears caused by usual operation of the fan rotor blades, or by foreign object
damage (FOD) are not permitted.
(b) Nicks, dents, and scratches on the contour surfaces of the root area and area C are
permitted if they are less than 0.003 inch (0.08 mm) in depth.
(c) Nicks, dents, and scratches on the leading and trailing edges of the root area and area C
are permitted if they are less than 0.020 inch (0.51 mm) in depth.
(d) The limits for nicks, dents, and scratches on the leading and trailing edges in all areas
other than the root area and area C are as follows:
1) They are permitted if they are less than 0.060 inch (1.52 mm) in depth and are
located on the outer panel.
2) They are permitted if they are less than 0.040 inch (1.0 mm) in depth and are
located on the inner panel.
3) Scratches are permitted if they are less than 0.50 inch (13 mm) in length (after the
high metal has been removed).
(e) Fan blade tips (trailing edge) that rub or catch against the fan case shroud:
1) Tips that catch or rub are permitted, if the blades satisfactorily complete all other
blade inspection specifications ( paragraph 2.B)
2) There is no limit to the number of the blade tips that rub or catch against the shroud.
3) Discoloration resulting from tip rub, any amount provided there are no cracks in the
airfoil.
(f) Tip curl is permitted on both corners of the blade tip if the conditions that follow are met:
1) The tip curl must measure less than 0.50 inch (13 mm) on the leading or trailing
edge of the blade tip.
2) Deflection of the tip curl must be less than 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) from the initial tip
contour.
3) A maximum of five blades can have the conditions that follow:
a) Tip curl that measures less than 1.5 inches (38 mm) across the blade tip.
b) Leading or trailing edge deflection from the initial contour must be less than
0.30 inch (7.62 mm).
(g) Nicks and dents on the blade tip are permitted if they are less than 0.060 inch (1.52 mm)
in depth and 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) in length.
