(Continued)
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Bent blades Permitted, if they do not engage with parts of the compressor stator during
operation.
Corrosion and dirt Permitted. Do the procedure to clean the engine with coke or the water wash
(PAGEBLOCK 72-00-00/701) because a large quantity of deposits can affect
the engine performance.
Aluminum or abrasive deposits on the
blades (usually found on the leading
edges)
Permitted, but a large quantity of deposits can affect the engine performance.
Do the procedure to clean the engine with coke (SUBJECT 72-00-00).
NOTE: aluminum deposits on the blades can be a sign of compressor hard
stall. Refer to the Unusual Condition Inspection in this procedure.
Burrs and high metal on the blade tips
from wear
Permitted.
Platform shingling Not permitted.
Cracks on the platforms of the blades
that lock
Not permitted.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-216-143-G00
(5) Examine the leading edge of the 1st-stage blades for the conditions that follow (Figure 602):
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Damage because of inlet guide vane
(IGV) contact with the 1st-stage blade
Permitted, if the total is not more than 1.0 square inch (65 square cm) on a
maximum of four blades. The damage must be no more than 0.75 inch (19.1
mm) from the leading edge and 2.0 inches (51 mm) from the tip of the blade.
Permitted for an unlimited number of blades, if damage does not exceed 0.2
square inch (12.903 square mm) on any blade.
If the damage is more than 1.0 inch (25 mm) (PAGEBLOCK 72-35-00/801). You
must do this before 10 flight cycles (maximum).
SUBTASK 72-00-00-716-146-G00
(6) Examine the mid-span shroud areas of the 1st-stage blades for the conditions that follow
(Figure 605):
NOTE: The midspan shroud has two configurations of protection for wear. One configuration
is a thermally sprayed-on hardcoat and the other is a brazed-on carboloy pad.
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Shingling of the 1st-stage blades (the
mid-span shrouds are overlapped)
Not permitted.
Signs that shingling has occurred in
flight - scratches or gouges on the lower
or upper mid-span shroud surfaces
Permitted if:
1) The blades are not shingled at this time.
2) There are no dents on the airfoil panel or the mid-span fillet directly above
and below the mid-span shrouds.
3) There is no other unserviceable damage.
