(4) If you see oil, do the steps that follow to clean the oil from the fan midshaft:
(a) Use a mop, STD-6391 to remove the oil from the fan midshaft.
NOTE: You can attach a shop cloth to the end of a 4-5 foot (1.2-1.5 meter) stick to make
a mop.
WARNING
DO NOT GET CLEANING SOLUTIONS IN YOUR MOUTH, EYES, OR ON
YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES. PUT ON A PROTECTIVE
SPLASH GOGGLE AND GLOVES WHEN YOU CLEAN. KEEP CLEANING
SOLUTIONS AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAMES, AND HEAT. CLEANING
SOLUTIONS ARE POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE, AND CAN CAUSE
INJURY TO PERSONS.
CAUTION
USE ONLY THE NECESSARY AMOUNT OF CLEANING SOLUTION. USE
A SUCTION LINE TO KEEP THE CLEANING SOLUTION OUT OF THE
LOW PRESSURE TURBINE CAVITY.
(b) Use the solvent, B00074 or alcohol, B00679 [C04-035] to clean the oil from the fan mid
shaft.
1) Use an solvent applicator, STD-6555 (Figure 203) to apply the cleaning solution.
(c) Do again the steps to clean the oil from the fan midshaft as many times as necessary.
NOTE: The oil is not easy to clean because it is very viscous.

(5) Do the steps that follow to install the center vent tube (Figure 204):
(a) Attach the locking strap set, SPL-12859 on the fan rotor.
1) The installation instructions are on the placard in the container for the locking strap
set.
(b) Find the four holes at the forward end of the center vent tube.
(c) Use solvent, B00062 or Clorothene NU solvent, B00070 to clean the inner diameters of
the four holes.
(d) Install a vespel insert in each of the four holes.
(e) Lubricate Area G with a large quantity of pure nickel special compound, D50017
[C02-071] (preferred) or Acheson GP460 compound, D50043 [C02-058] (alternative) or
anti-seize compound, D50067 [C02-001] (alternative) (Figure 204).
(f) Apply Loctite 592 compound, G50471 to Area J (Figure 204).
(g) Fill the four holes with Hysol EA 934NA adhesive paste, A01059 [C01-011] (Figure 204).
1) Let the epoxy resin overlap the surface of the hole by 0.01-0.07 inch (0.3-1.8 mm).
2) Let the epoxy resin have a maximum diameter of 0.75 inch (19.0 mm).
(h) Do the steps that follow to prepare the packings for installation on the center vent tube:
1) Use hose clamps to compress the packings.
2) Put the packings on dry ice until they are compressed.
3) Lubricate the packings with oil, D00552 [C02-019].
(i) Install one packing on each groove in the integral support of the center vent tube.
