(j) Visually examine the repair as follows:
1) Point a light on the honeycomb cells (at approximately a 60 degree angle from
vertical).
2) Look for light that shows from under the cell walls.
3) If you see light, the adhesive bond is bad.
4) You can repair 5 linear inches (127 mm) of a bad adhesive bond as follows:
a) Use a syringe and a hypodermic needle to apply a small bead of adhesive.
b) Apply the adhesive along the honeycomb cell wall and adjacent to the
fiberglass fabric.
H. Repair the Abradable Shroud

(1) Prepare the abradable shroud material as follows:
NOTE: For small repairs, use the alternate procedure (that follows) to use the abradable
compound that is in a tube kit.
WARNING
DO NOT GET THIS MATERIAL IN YOUR MOUTH, EYES, OR ON YOUR
SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THIS MATERIAL. PUT ON
A RESPIRATOR, EYE PROTECTION (GOGGLES, OR OTHER
APPROVED PROTECTION) AND GLOVES WHEN YOU USE THIS
MATERIAL. MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS SUFFICIENT AIRFLOW. THIS
MATERIAL CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(a) For large repairs, calculate the necessary quantity of each component.
Epoxy Resin 98-100 parts by weight
Catalyst Reducer 16 parts by weight
Phenolic Microballoons 22 parts by weight
(b) Weigh the necessary quantities of each component.
NOTE: If it is possible, keep the materials and the repair area at 70°F (21°C).
(c) Mix the epoxy resin and the catalyst reducer in a clean container.
(d) Put the phenolic microballoons into the mixture.
(e) Mix until the compound is smooth.

(2) For small repairs, you can use the abradable compound that is in a tube kit as follows:
(a) Pull the handle on the tube kit until it is fully out of the tube.
(b) Put the rod in the empty space in the handle to break the seal between the resin and the
catalyst.
(c) Push the handle fully into the tube.
(d) Put the tube kit on a portable mixer.
NOTE: If a mixer is not available, you can mix the compound manually. Push the handle
in and out of the tube for 15-20 minutes.
(e) Put the drive spindle in the handle empty space.
(f) Mix the compound for 3-5 minutes.
