Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Tears or metal that is gone from one tip wall. Permitted, any amount from one tip wall if the opposite tip
wall is intact. Refer to the Continue-In-Operation-Limits
Tip cap can be seen Not permitted. Refer to the Continue-In-Operation Limits.
(g) Examine the platforms of the rotor blades on the 1st-stage HPT for the condition that
follows:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Radial cracks into the root radius on the convex platform Permitted, if they do not go into the airfoil.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-296-195-G00
(12) Use the borescope to examine the rotor blades on the 2nd-stage high pressure turbine (HPT)
for the conditions that follow (Figure 614):
NOTE: There are tip notches on the concave side of four blades 90 degrees apart on the
second-stage rotor. The tip notches are for reference only and are not signs of erosion.
NOTE: There are two chaplet holes on each side of the blade. These holes are normally filled
with braze material. Oxidation can remove the braze and expose the chaplet holes.
This condition (exposed chaplet holes) is serviceable.
(a) Examine the concave and convex surfaces of the rotor blades on the 2nd-stage HPT for
the conditions that follow:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Cracks Not permitted.
Tears, and material that is gone Not permitted.
Brazed manufacturing holes (Chaplet holes) missing
braze material
Any amount
Dents and nicks This damage is not permitted if it is less than 0.500 inch (12.7
mm) from the platform. Permitted in the other areas if less
than 0.250 inch (6.35 mmm) in diameter, and there is no torn
metal.
Surface cracks near the tip Permitted, within the repair area (the repair area has a
different color).
(b) Examine the leading edge area of the rotor blades on the 2nd-stage HPT for the
conditions that follow:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Nicks and dents Permitted.
Cracks Permitted in area A, if the crack is in a dent. Not permitted in
area B.
Tears, and material that is gone Not permitted.
(c) Examine the trailing edge of the rotor blades on the 2nd-stage HPT for the conditions that
follow:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limit
Cracks Not permitted.
