(5) If you cannot find the source of the unwanted material, do the steps that follow:
(a) Continue to use the engine, and monitor the engine performance.
(b) Clean or replace the fault isolation plugs.
1) Label and save the unwanted material for diagnosis.
(c) Continue to use the engine, if the engine parameters do not show engine problems.
1) Look for increases in engine vibration, EGT, and oil consumption.
(d) Examine the magnetic chip detector, the pump scavenge inlet screens, and the fault
isolation plugs daily or after each flight.
(e) If there are no more signs of engine damage after two consecutive days of engine use,
return to usual engine use.
EXAMPLE: Use a magnifying glass to examine the material on the magnetic chip
detector, pump scavenge inlet screens or fault isolation plugs. Look for bearing spall
material (flakes) This is a sign of bearing failure. Immediately remove the gearbox, the
radial driveshaft or the engine. Also, you must clean the lube system.
(f) You do not need to remove the engine immediately for the unwanted materials that
follow:
1) Labyrinth seal rub strip and coating such as silver plate or Sermetel.
a) Do a spectrographic analysis on the material.
2) Preformed packings, gaskets and omni seals.

(6) If the engine has fuel, hydraulic fluid, or other contamination in the oil system, you must correct
the cause of the contamination.
For fuel or oil contamination, refer to the high oil quantity (FIM 71-05-00-1). For other
contamination, refer to the oil system contamination inspection procedure
(TASK 79-00-00-216-026-G00).
SUBTASK 72-00-00-216-140-G00
(7) The indications that follow can show if the engine has fuel contamination in the oil system:
(a) Flight crew indication of an oil level increase during flight (also an oil pressure decrease
and an oil temperature increase).
(b) Cabin crew report of fumes in the cabin during flight.
(c) Fuel smell in the oil tank after flight.
(d) Fuel detection equipment indicates fuel in the oil tank after flight.
