CAUTION
DO NOT USE WATER TO REMOVE THE DRY CHEMICAL FIRE
EXTINGUISHING AGENTS FROM THE ENGINE. IF YOU USE WATER TO
REMOVE THE DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHING AGENTS, IT CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO ENGINE PARTS.
(a) Use engine vacuum cleaner, STD-6636 and regulated air source, STD-12857 at 30-40
psi (207-276 KPa) as needed to remove all the loose powder from the engine.
(b) If the dry chemical powder has become a glaze, do the steps that follow:
WARNING
DO NOT GET CLEANING SOLUTIONS IN YOUR MOUTH, EYES, OR
ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES. PUT ON A
PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLE AND GLOVES WHEN YOU CLEAN.
KEEP CLEANING SOLUTIONS AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAMES, AND
HEAT. CLEANING SOLUTIONS ARE POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE,
AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
1) Prepare a cleaning mixture with 60 percent alcohol, B00679 [C04-035] and 40
percent alcohol, B00342.
2) Clean with a brush or Scotch-Brite 7447 pad, G02348 [C10-010] until all the glaze is
removed.
3) Steam clean to remove all the cleaning mixture.

5. How to Clean the Engine with Coke
(Figure 704)
A. General
(1) This procedure removes contamination collected through time from the engine fan blades.
While the engine is in operation, coke is sprayed from a grit blast machine onto the engine fan
blades.
(2) Three persons are needed for this procedure. One person will operate the grit blast machine,
one person will operate the airplane controls, and one person will monitor the procedure.
