1) Set the anti-torque stop arm adapter, SPL-6742 so that the hole in the arm slips
over one of the trunnions of the support adapter.
2) Rotate the assembly (consisting of fan rotor with support adapter and anti-torque
adapter) to align the holes in the anti-torque adapter plate with holes in the forward
flange of the forward stator casing. Attach the adapter to the stator casing with bolts.
(m) Install the stage 1 fan disk bore protector, SPL-6714.
(n) Use tool set, SPL-6736 and adapter set, SPL-6737 to loosen the nuts that attach the
stage 1 fan rotor disk to the forward fan shaft, but do not remove all the nuts at this time.
(o) Matchmark the stage 1 fan rotor disk to the booster spool and forward fan shaft.
(p) Make an identification diagram of the parts and matchmarks.
(q) Include the areas that you can use for identification, such as the offset holes, the part
numbers, and the serial numbers.
(r) Use this diagram to align the parts if the matchmarks are removed.
CAUTION
MAKE SURE YOU PREVENT DAMAGE THE DOVETAIL SLOTS WHILE
YOU USE THE LOCALLY MANUFACTURED TOOL. DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(s) Use the locally manufactured tool (Figure 404) to get access to the bolt heads through
the disk dovetail slots.
1) Remove the nuts that attach the stage 1 fan rotor disk to the stage 2-5 spool.
2) Leave the bolts installed.
(t) Remove the anti-torque adapter.
(u) Use plastic or phenolic material to make shims and install under the stage 2 rotor blades
from the 4 o'clock to the 8 o'clock position.
NOTE: This will prevent movement of the low pressure compressor when the stage 1 fan
rotor disk is removed.
(v) Remove all but four of the nuts on the bolts that attach the stage 1 fan rotor disk to the
forward fan shaft.
(w) Apply tension to the lift fixture and set for the correct center of gravity for the stage 1 fan
rotor disk only.
1) Remove the remaining four nuts on the forward fan shaft bolts.
(x) Carefully remove the stage 1 fan rotor disk and support adapter.
(y) Put the disk and the support adapter into the assembly stand.
(z) Remove the stage 1 fan rotor disk from the support adapter.
(aa) To remove the bolts from the forward fan shaft, tap with a plastic or rubber mallet of use
remove/install fixture, SPL-6743.
