Removing a Top Fan Tray from a QFX3008-I Interconnect Device
A QFX3008-I Interconnect device top fan tray is field-replaceable. and is hot-removable
and hot-insertable; you can remove and replace the fan tray while the device is running
without turning off power to the device or disrupting switching functions.
CAUTION: Do not remove a fan tray unless you have a replacement fan tray
available.
The top fan tray installs horizontally at the top on the back of the chassis, behind a cover
door. There are two captive screws at the top of the cover door to secure the cover door
to the chassis.
Before you remove a top fan tray, ensure that you understandhow to prevent ESD damage.
See “Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 192.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to remove a top fan tray
from a QFX3008-I Interconnect device:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap
Replacement top fan tray
Phillips (+) screwdriver, number 2
CAUTION: The fan trays can be removed and replaced while the QFX3008-I
Interconnect device is operating. However, you must replace the fan tray
within 2 minutes of removing the fan tray to prevent overheating of the
chassis.
To remove a fan tray from a QFX3008-I Interconnect device (see Figure 104 on page 337):
1. Attach the electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap to your bare wrist, and
connect the strap to the ESD point on the chassis.
2. Unscrew the captive screws on the cover door counterclockwise using your fingers. If
you cannot easily unscrew the captive screws with your fingers, use the screwdriver.
3. Open the door, being careful to lower it gently, until it stops.
4. Turn the latch, located in the center of the fan tray, counterclockwise to release the
tray.
5. Pull firmly on the latch to slide the fan tray about 5 in. (13 cm) out of the chassis.
WARNING: There is no fan guard on the fans. Be careful to keep your
fingers clear of the moving fan blades when you are removing the fan tray.
