CUSTOM SETTING MENU
e1 Flash cntrl for built-in flash
This governs how the built-in flash is
regulated. The default is TTL, which means
flash output is regulated automatically by
the camera’s metering system. If you select
Manual instead, you can press
and use
a sub-menu to determine the strength of
the flash, from Full down to 1/128 power.
e2 Auto bracketing set
Bracketing means taking a sequence of
shots while varying certain settings, most
commonly those relating to exposure. This
has already been discussed in detail (see
page 68). The options are: AE bracketing
(default), WB bracketing, and ADL
bracketing.
f1 Assign Fn. button
A wide range of functions can be assigned
to the Fn button. In most cases it’s used in
conjunction with the Command Dial:
pressing Fn activates the Active
Information Display and highlights the
selected setting. Hold in the button and
turn the Command Dial to change values
for that setting. In practice this becomes
the quickest way to change values for your
chosen setting, whether it’s ISO, white
balance, or anything else from the list
on page 120.
f2 Assign button
You can also assign a number of different
functions to the
button (page 121).
f3 Reverse dial rotation
This reverses the effect of rotating the
Command Dial in a given direction. For
instance, in A mode, turning it to the right
normally makes the aperture smaller but
you can make it have the opposite effect.
You can customize this separately for
Exposure compensation and for Shutter
speed/aperture settings.
f4 Slot empty release lock
By default (i.e. LOCK is selected in this
menu), the shutter can’t be released unless
there’s a memory card in the camera. The
obvious lack of response protects you
against shooting away happily for hours,
only to discover later that none of your
images have been recorded.
Alternatively you can select ON. Images
are held in the camera’s buffer and can be
displayed on the monitor (demo mode),
but are not recorded.
f5 Reverse indicators
This governs how the exposure displays in
the Viewfinder and Information Display are
shown. By default (–0+ selected), over-
exposure is indicated by bars on the right
side. +0– reverses this so overexposure is
on the left. There’s no reason to change
this setting other than personal preference.
