USER-CONTROL MODES
The remaining four modes are traditional
standards, which will be familiar to any
experienced photographer. As well as
allowing direct control over the basic
settings of aperture and shutter speed
(even in P mode through flexible
program), these modes give full access to
controls like White Balance (page 80),
Active D-Lighting (page 98), and to Nikon
Picture Controls (page 99). These extra
controls give you great control over the
look and feel of the image.

(P) Programmed auto
In P mode the camera sets a combination
of shutter speed and aperture that will give
correctly exposed results in most situations.
Of course, this much is also true of the Full
Auto modes and Scene modes, but P
mode allows you to adjust other
parameters to suit your own creative ideas,
including White Balance (page 80), Active
PROGRAMMED AUTO
This mode allows you to tailor camera settings
to suit your own creative ideas. 200mm, 1/200
sec., f/5.6, ISO 400.
