In traditional 35mm photography (and
full-frame digital), a 50mm lens is called
standard, as its field of view is held to
approximate that of the human eye—
this is debatable, but the label has stuck.
Because of the crop factor of the D5300,
the equivalent lens would be around
35mm. Standard lenses are typically light,
simple, and have wide maximum apertures.
Zoom lenses whose range covers the
35mm focal length are often referred
to as “standard zooms”.
NIKKOR 50MM F/1.8
CASTLE VIEW
Although a standard lens may not be the natural
choice for landscape shots, it provides a field of
view considered to be the closest to the human
eye. 42mm, 1/200 sec., f/11, ISO 200.
