THE EXPANDED GUIDE
FUNCTIONS

FOCUSING
OFF-CENTER
The ability to select focus points
is most helpful with off-center
subjects, or if you want to focus
on a very specific point. The
sign is key and I chose to let
the background go slightly soft.
30mm, 1/100 sec., f/5.6, ISO 200
several sub-modes. These can only be
selected when the AF mode is AF-A or
AF-C (page 72).
In all sub-modes, you still select the
initial focus point, as in Single-area AF. If
the subject moves, the camera will then
employ other focus points to maintain
focus, but it’s still trying to track the subject
you selected. The sub-mode options
determine the number of focus points that
will be employed for this: 9, 21, or the full
39 points.
The final option is 3D tracking, which
uses a wide range of information,
including subject colors, to track subjects
that may be moving erratically.
