Night portrait
Party/indoor
Night portrait mode is similar to Portrait
mode, but when the ambient light is low it
sets a long shutter speed to allow an image
of the background to register. For this
reason, a tripod or other solid camera
support is recommended. The built-in flash
operates automatically; results may be less
harsh than regular Portrait mode but a
flashgun improves results. JPEG processing
is based on a Portrait Picture Control.
NIGHT PORTRAIT
Night portrait mode combines ambient lighting
with on-board flash to capture the foreground
and background. 28mm, 1/25 sec., f/5, ISO 800.
This mode is broadly similar to Night
Portrait in seeking to record both people
and their background, but does not allow
such long exposures to be set. Again, Red-
eye reduction flash is employed by default,
complete with enforced shutter delay.
Fortunately, Flash mode can be changed
via the Active Information Display (see
page 30). JPEG processing is based on a
Standard Picture Control.
PARTY/
INDOOR
Party/indoor
mode can be
used outdoors
too. 66mm,
1/100 sec., f/4,
ISO 3200.
