create one using the NEF (RAW)

Setting image quality
1) In the Active Information Display, select
Image quality.
2) Press
to bring up the list of options
(see the table below). Using the Multi-
selector, highlight the required setting
then press
again to make it effective.
Image quality options
RAW 14-bit NEF (RAW) fi les are recorded for the ultimate quality and
creative fl exibility.
FINE 8-bit JPEG fi les are recorded with a compression ratio of approximately
1:4; should be suitable for prints of A3 size or even larger.
NORM 8-bit JPEG fi les are recorded with a compression ratio of approximately
1:8; should be suitable for modest-sized prints.
BASIC 8-bit JPEG fi les are recorded with a compression ratio of approximately
1:16, suitable for transmission by email or website use but not
recommended for printing.
RAW + F Two copies of the same image are recorded simultaneously,
RAW + N one NEF (RAW) and one JPEG (Fine, Normal, or Basic).
