Working with ISO
Variable ISO is one of the greatest
advantages of digital over film, as you’ll
appreciate if you’ve ever struggled with a
35mm camera and the wrong speed film.
Being able to vary the ISO at any time
gives terrific flexibility and many digital
photographers change it almost as often
as they do aperture and shutter speed.
GO WITH THE FLOW
I used a low ISO and a small aperture mainly
to allow a slow shutter speed to smooth the
flow of the water. 12mm,

HIGH ISO
This cyclocross event took place on a fairly dull
day and to add to the challenge this part of the
course was heavily shaded by trees. Competitors
were moving relatively slowly on the climb but I
still needed to keep the shutter speed fairly high,
and this dictated a high ISO rating. Fortunately
image quality remains excellent. 150mm,
1/400 sec., f/4, ISO 1000.
