Candlelight
Recommended for portraits of active pets.
The built-in flash will fire automatically in
low light but the AF-assist illuminator turns
off, presumably to avoid disturbing the
animal before the shot. The flash can be
turned off via the Active Information
Display. In other respects this mode is very
similar to
Child, including the use of a
Standard Picture Control.
PET PORTRAIT
It’s not exactly a pet, but Pet portrait mode still
works well. 66mm, 1/1250 sec., f/4.5, ISO 400.
Recommended for portraits and other
subjects illuminated by candlelight.
Because candlelight is quite weak,
exposure times are usually long, a tripod is
recommended, and the subject will need
to keep still. The built-in flash does not fire;
it’s possible to use an external flash but this
generally defeats the object of shooting by
candlelight. White balance is
predetermined to allow for the very red
hue of the candlelight. JPEG processing is
based on a Standard Picture Control.
CANDLELIGHT
Candlelight mode
does not
completely
neutralize the
warm glow of the
candlelight. 70mm,
1/125 sec., f/4.5,
ISO 3600.
