Wide-angle lenses
A wide-angle lens is any lens wider than a
standard lens; for the D5300 this means any
lens shorter than 35mm. Wide-angle lenses
are valuable for working close to subjects
or bringing foregrounds into greater
prominence. They lend themselves both to
photographing expansive scenic views and
to working in cramped spaces where you
can’t step back to “get more in”. With the
D5300’s crop factor, a lens like an 18mm,
once regarded as “super-wide”, gives a less
extreme angle of view. Wider lenses like
Nikon’s 12–24mm are now available.
