Tip
To take a still photo during movie
shooting, press the shutter-release
button and keep it pressed until you
hear the shutter operate (you may
have to wait a second or so). Still
frames can also be extracted from
movies after shooting, but only at
the current movie resolution (i.e.
maximum 1920 x 1080 pixels).

SHOOTING MOVIES
1) Choose exposure mode, AF mode, and
AF-area mode as for Live View shooting.
If using A or M exposure mode, set the
aperture. If using S mode, or M mode
with Manual movie settings On, set the
shutter speed.
2) Activate Live View by flicking the
switch. It’s a good idea to go to the “movie
indicators” screen by pressing
INFO one or
more times (see page 89).
3) Check framing and initial exposure level
(possibly taking a still frame or very short
clip as a test). Set initial focus by half-
pressure on the shutter-release button,
or focus manually.
4) Press to start recording the movie.
REC flashes on the monitor screen while
recording, and an indicator shows the
maximum remaining shooting time.
5) To stop recording, press
again.
6) Exit Live View by flicking
.

The golden rule is: think ahead. If a still
frame isn’t quite right, you can review it,
change position or settings, and be ready
to reshoot within seconds. To shoot and
review even a short movie clip eats up
much more time, and you may not get
a second chance anyway. It’s doubly
important to get shooting position,
