NIKON SPEEDLIGHTS / FLASH ACCESSORIES
FLASH DIFFUSER
This shot was taken using the HONL flash
diffuser on a Speedlight SB-700 with a remote
cord, fired from the left of the subject. 100mm
macro, 1/60 sec., f/16, ISO 100.
A step beyond a simple diffuser is
the portable “softbox” which can attach
to a Speedlight to create a wider spread
of light.
Flash extenders
A flash extender slips over the flash head,
using mirrors or a lens to create a tighter
beam and extend the effective range of
the flash. Again, the D5300’s metering
system will automatically accommodate
the use of an extender. Nikon do not make
flash extenders, so a third-party option will
be required.
Flash brackets
The ability to take the flash off the camera,
and therefore change the angle at which
the light hits the subject, is invaluable in
controlling the quality of light. Nikon’s
Speedlights can be mounted on a tripod
or stand on any flat surface using the AS-19
stand, but for a quick, portable solution
many photographers prefer a light, flexible
arm or bracket which attaches to the
camera and supports the Speedlight.
Novoflex produces a range of such
products.
