Flash range
The range of any flash depends on its
power, ISO sensitivity setting and the
aperture set. The table below details the
approximate range of the built-in flash for
selected distances, apertures, and ISO
settings. The table is based on Nikon’s own
ISO equivalent setting Range

FLASH RANGE
Even at ISO 1600, the limited
range of the built-in flash is
obvious. It doesn’t really even
reach as far as the café (but
note that it does reflect off a
car number plate further back).
figures, confirmed by practical tests.
There’s no need to memorize these
figures, but it does help to have a sense of
the limited range that always applies when
using flash. A quick test shot will tell you if
any given subject is within range.
