3. HEAT EXCHANGER INSPECTION

CAUTION
ENSURE THAT ENGINE IS OFF AND COOL BEFORE PERFORM THE
HEAT EXCHANGER INSPECTION.
1.
Engage parking brake
2.
Ensure that Master Switch is turned OFF
3.
Remove exhaust
Refer to Exhaust removal
4.
Remove rivets along heat exchanger
longitudinal edges with suitable means and
record position.
Refer to Figure 5.
5.
Open heat exchanger along longitudinal edges
and remove it from muffler
Refer to Figure 6.
6.
Remove all mastic traces
Refer to Figure 5.
7.
Inspect heat exchanger to locate corrosions,
cracks and deformations
No corrosion , cracks or
deformation allowed
8.
Apply a mastic layer on muffler rings and in
correspondence of rivet line. Use type 3 sealant
See Chapter 51.
Refer to Figure 5.
9.
Install heat exchanger on its muffler seat
10.
Use a clamp to keep heat exchanger position on
muffler
11.
Fix with rivets as recorded during removal
procedure

12.
Install exhaust
Refer to Exhaust installation
