4 MEASUREMENT FLOW
In this chapter, the surface roughness measurement with the SJ-410
is described according to the general procedures.

4.1 Perform Measurement according to Overall
Measurement Flow
Overall measurement flow is described below.
Set up the SJ-410 (Attaching the drive unit, detector, height/tilt
adjustment unit, etc.).
Select either the AC adapter or built-in battery as the power
supply. Recharge the built-in battery as required.
Perform adjustment for calibration and measurement (vertical
positioning and leveling).
Calibration is a means of adjusting the detector gain so that the
SJ-410 can yield correct measurements. This can be easily
performed by measuring a supplied precision roughness
specimen.
Change the condition settings as necessary.
Measure the roughness of the workpiece.
Displays the measurement results.
You can print the measurement results using the built-in printer
of the display unit. You can also save the measurement results
on the SD card or output the SPC data. For details, refer to
"Chapter 18 SAVING AND OUTPUTTING MEASUREMENT
RESULTS USING THE [DATA] KEY" (page 18-1).
After measurement, store the SJ-410 safely by detaching the
drive/detector unit, etc.
