4.5 Perform Measurement
To start measurement, set the drive/detector unit on a workpiece and press . While
measurement is being performed, the evaluation profile is displayed. After measurement
has been completed, the measurement result will be displayed for confirmation.
4.5.1 Set the workpiece and drive/detector unit.
■ Setting the workpiece and drive unit
For surface roughness measurement to be successful, it should be performed on a firm
base that is insulated as well as possible from all sources of vibration. If measurement is
performed being subject to significant vibrations, results may be unreliable.
TIP
• In cases where the measured surface is smaller than the drive unit or where the surface
is curved (cylindrical, etc.), install the SJ-410 using an appropriate optional accessory
such as the simple column stand. For information about optional accessory, refer to
"22.8 Optional Accessories" (page 22-9).
1 Position the work piece so that the measured surface is level.
2 Set the drive/detector unit. Subsequently, perform vertical positioning and leveling to
adjust the height and angle of the drive/detector unit.
TIP
• For information about the vertical positioning, refer to "4.2.1 Perform the vertical
positioning
" (page 4-2).
• For information about the leveling, refer to "
4.2.4 Perform leveling" (page 4-4).
NOTE
• For information about the short approach length measurement, refer to "5.3 Shortening
the Approach Length for Measurement" (page 5-6).
