3.3.4 Adjusting the nosepiece height: for skid-attached measurement setup
To perform skid-attached measurement, adjust the nosepiece height according to the
following procedure.
Skidless measurement does not require the nosepiece height adjustment.
■ Adjusting the nosepiece height
1 Place the drive/detector unit on the level block surface.
2 Slightly loosen a nosepiece set screw with an Allen wrench (nominal 1.5). Be sure
not to loosen the screw fully, otherwise the nosepiece will be shifted upward.
3 Turn the height adjustment screw on the nosepiece clockwise, setting the skid on the
block to adjust the stylus position with an Allen wrench (nominal 0.9) so that the
stylus position display value on the Drive Unit Operation screen falls within ±30 μm
(±1181.102 μin). Turning the screw clockwise makes the skid (nosepiece) rise
against the stylus.
If the stylus position display value exceeds 30 μm (1181.102 μin) during adjustment,
turn the height adjustment screw counterclockwise. Turning the screw
counterclockwise makes the skid (nosepiece) down against the stylus. The height
adjustment screw changes for approx. 400 μm (15748.031 μin) per one turn.
4 Secure the nose set screw.
