6 CALIBRATION
In this chapter how to perform calibration is described.
The process of calibration involves the measurement of a reference workpiece (precision
roughness specimen and step specimen) and the adjustment of the difference (gain
adjustment), if there is one between the measured value of the SJ-410 and the reference
value (precision roughness specimen and step specimen).
Depending on the usage of the SJ-410, calibration should be performed periodically. In
addition, when the instrument is used for the first time or if the detector has been attached
or detached, calibration is necessary.
Without properly calibrating the instrument, correct measurements can not be obtained.
When the drive unit is exchanged, calibration is necessary. When performing calibration,
adjust the gain so that measurement can be made with the appropriate speed according to
the type and individuals of the SJ-410 drive unit. If calibration is not performed correctly,
there is a possibility calculation results may be affected. For more information, refer to
"13.7 Calibrating Drive Unit Speed" (page 13-20).
