3.2 Attaching a Stylus and a Nosepiece
The SJ-410 is shipped with the detector unit, styli, and nosepieces packed separately.
Select a stylus and a nosepiece according to the measurement purpose, then attach them
to the detector main unit.
Use the same procedure for replacing the stylus and nosepiece.
■ Detector structure
The detector consists of the detector main unit, styli, and nosepieces.
A stylus can be plugged in and unplugged from the detector main unit on which it is fixed
with spring action. A nosepiece is attached to the detector main unit with a nose set screw
(socket-head screws) at the front.
Replacement of the standard stylus and nosepiece with each of the optional accessories
allows an appropriate measurement in accordance with the surface texture of a
workpiece.
Two types of nosepieces are available: one is a skidless nosepiece that has no skid on the
tip, and the other is a skid-attached nosepiece that has a skid on the tip.
• When replacing a stylus, do not apply excessive force to it. The styli and detector main
unit have been assembled precisely. They may be damaged if any excessive force is
applied to.
• When replacing a stylus, exercise care so as not to damage the stylus tip. The stylus tip
has been precisely machined in particular.
• When replacing a nosepiece, attach or detach it with care so as not to hit the stylus. The
stylus may be bent if any excessive force is applied to.
• If a stylus and a skid-attached nosepiece are replaced, be sure to adjust the height. If
measurement is performed with no height adjustment made, a damage to the detector,
etc., may result.
