7. MODIFICATION OF THE MEASUREMENT CONDITIONS AND EVALUATING CONDITIONS
■ Compensation
If measurement/analysis is performed on a surface with curvature, data compensation is
required as a pre-processing of parameter calculation. Generally, the data compensation
is the processing called “removal of trends” for removing the waviness components of a
workpiece. This data compensation can remove the waviness components with the longer
wavelengths, which cannot be removed with the filters.
In the data compensation, the user selects a trend profile appropriate for the surface
texture of a workpiece. The position and the coefficients of the trend profile are determined
in order that they fit to the sectional profile most, and the obtained residuals are used as
the data following the compensation.
The following figure shows an example of the removal of trends performed on a workpiece
with round surface.
