5.9 Knife and Knife Drive
5.9.1 Knife Drive Box
The knife drive box converts rotational motion into reciprocating motion to the knife. It is belt driven from a hydraulic
motor that is powered by the adapter hydraulic pump.
CAUTION
To avoid personal injury, before servicing machine or opening drive covers, refer to 5.1 Preparation for
Servicing, page 251.
Checking Mounting Bolts
Check the torque on the four knife drive box mounting bolts (A) and (B) after the first 10 hours operation and
every 100 hours thereafter.
1. Torque side bolts (A) first, then the bottom bolts (B).
Torque to 200 ft·lbf (271 N m).

Removing Knife Drive Box

2. Loosen the two bolts (A) that secure the motor
assembly to header endsheet.
3. Loosen the tension on the belt by turning the tensioning
bolt (B) counterclockwise.
