Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a protocol for remotely managing and monitoring
network devices. Network administrators can use the SNMParchitecture to manage nodes, including
servers, workstations, routers, switches, hubs, and other equipment on an IPnetwork, manage
network performance, find and solvenetwork problems, and plan for network growth.
The IX20 device supports both SNMPv3and SNMPv2c in read-only mode. Both are disabled by default.
SNMPv1 is not supported.
SNMP Security
By default, the IX20 device automatically blocksSNMPpackets from being received over WAN and LAN
interfaces. Asa result, if you want a IX20 device to receive SNMPpackets, you must configure the
SNMPaccess control list to allow the device to receive the packets. See Configure Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP).
Standard and custom Management Information Bases(MIB)
The standard MIBdefines the properties and accesspermissionsfor variousmanaged objects so that
you can query standard information about a device, like system contact or system location via SNMP
monitoring. Thecustom MIBdefines the unique propertiesand access permissionsnot found in the
standard MIB. To view the MIB list, see Download MIBs.
DynamicSNMP
To expose a specific device property for SNMPmonitoring that is not included in the standard MIB-
propertieslike serial number, system firmware version, hardwaremodel name, and dynamic properties
- you can query the runtime database for the property value and then add a Dynamic SNMP. The
device property is added to the custom MIB.
