To give the SMDR software an indication that the call is not terminated on the S-point and not a new call,
but an extension of the first call, the PBX puts a special flag on the appropriate fields in the SMDR
records.

The mark provides two functions. First, by using an encoding that is not a usual number or trunk port
index, the SMDR software gets the information that a virtual loopback channel is used. Additionally, on
the Virtual Loopback's S-points, the station's phone number isn’t used, but the trunk port index of the
associated T-point, again marked as virtual. This way, the SMDR software can directly use the mark as
tag to link the calls together.
