10.8.1 Motor overload monitoring (i²*t)
This funcon monitors the thermal ulisaon of the motor, taking the motor currents recor-
ded and a mathemacal model as a basis.
DANGER!
Fire hazard by overheang of the motor.
Possible consequences: Death or severe injuries
To achieve full motor protecon, an addional temperature monitoring funcon with a sep-
arate evaluaon must be installed.
When operang motors that are equipped with PTC thermistors or thermal contacts, always
acvate the PTC input. When used alone (without i2T monitoring), PTC thermistors or ther-
mal contacts do not full NEC conformity requirements according to arcle 430.
Details
This funcon only serves to funconally protect the motor. It is not suitable for safety-relevant
protecon against energy-induced hazards, since the funcon is not fail-safe.
When the thermal motor ulisaon calculated reaches the threshold set in 0x2D4B:001
(P308.01), the response set in 0x2D4B:003 (P308.03) is triggered.
With the seng 0x2D4B:003 (P308.03) = "No response [0]", the monitoring funcon is
deacvated.
For operaon that complies with NEC arcle 430 with motor overload protec-
on, do not modify the default sengs 0x2D4B:002 (P308.02) and 0x2D4B:003
(P308.03)!
(0x2D4B:002 (P308.02) = "On [0], 0x2D4B:003 (P308.03) = "Error [3]"). With
these sengs, the calculated thermal motor load is stored internally when the
inverter is switched o and reloaded again when switched on. When the moni-
toring is deacvated with the seng 0x2D4B:003 (P308.03) = "No response [0]"
or "Warning [1]", the motor overload protecon is deacvated. For operaon
that complies with NEC arcle 430 in this mode, the external overload protec-
on must be provided by the end user.
When monitoring the motor temperature with a suitable temperature sensor at
the terminals X109/T1 and X109/T2 and the acvated motor temperature moni-
toring (0x2D4B:002 (P308.02) for "Error [3]"), the motor overload protecon
(0x2D4B:003 (P308.03)) can also be set to a value other than "Error [3]" if nec-
essary.
If the monitoring is set to (0x2D4B:003 (P308.03) = "No response [0]" or "Warn-
ing [1]"), the motor overload protecon is deacvated. For operaon that com-
plies with NEC arcle 430 in this mode, the external overload protecon must
be provided by the end user.
