SECTION 14. ETHERNET TPS MODULE
14.1 OVERVIEW
Ethernet Networks have become increasingly popular for substation instrumentation and control.
Utilizing GOOSE (Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event) messages in a LAN environment, trips
are sent on a TCP/IP network. There is however, no easy means to transfer this GOOSE message to a
remote substation not encompassed by the Ethernet Network. The GARD Ethernet TPS Module
solves this problem by retrieving the GOOSE messages from the LAN and transporting them over any
one of the interfaces shown below to the remote substation.
o T1/E1Electrical or Fiber
o RS-449, 56 -768 kbps
o X.21, 64-728 kbps
o V.35, 64-728 kbps
o G.703, co-directional, 64 kbps
o C37.94 fiber
o Fiber, multi-mode or single-mode; up to 100 km
o Power Line Carrier; ON/OFF or FSK selectable
o 100 Base FX Ethernet Ports
