MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING
System Priming
Controlled venting of air is provided at the injection pump through the fuel drain manifold. Small amounts of air
introduced by changing filters or injection pump supply line will be vented automatically, if the fuel filters are
changed in accordance with instructions.
IMPORTANT:
Bleeding the
fuel system is NOT recommended or required. Manual priming will be required if:
•Fuelfilter is repla ce d
• Injection pump is replaced
• High-pressure fuel lines are replaced
• Engine is run until fuel tank is empty
Priming Fuel System

e fuel system, follow these steps:
DANGER
To avoid bodily injury or death from unexpected startup of the machine, always stop the engine and remove
the key from the ignition before leaving the operator’s seat for any reason.
WARNING
The fuel pump high-pressure fuel lines and fuel rail contain extremely high pressure fuel. Never loosen
any fittings. Personal injury and property damage can result.
1. Stop the eng

2. Open the ho
od to lowest position. Refer to 5.2.1 Opening Hood (Lower Position), page 306.
3. Turn the pr
iming knob (A) counterclockwise to unlock
the plunge
r on the primary filter head.
4. Pump appro
ximately 120 times to pressurize the
fuel syst
em.
5. Lock the p
lunger by turning knob (A) clockwise
until snu
g.
6. Try start
ing engine. If engine does NOT start,
repeat p
riming.
