8.2 Recommended Fuel, Fluids, and Lubricants
8.2.1 S toring Lubricants and Fluids
Your mach ine c
an only operate at top efciency if clean fuel and lubrica nts are used .
Buy good qual
ity, clean fuel from a reputable d ealer.
Use clean con
tainers to handle fuel and lubricants.
Keep contain
ers full to avoid condensation issues
Store in an ar
ea protected from dust, moisture, and other contaminants.
Avoid stori
ng fuel over long periods of time. If you have a slow fuel turnover in the windrower or supply tank, add
fuel condit
ioner to avoid condensation problems.
Store fuel i
n a convenient place away from buildings.
8.2.2 F uel
Specications
Use good quality diesel fuel from a reputable supplier. For most year-round s ervice a No.2 diesel fuel that meets
ASTM specication D975 Grade S15 will provide good performance.
If the vehicle is exposed to extreme cold (below 20°F [-7°C]) or is required to operate at colder-than-normal conditions
for prolonged periods, use climatized No.2 diesel fuel, or dilute the No.2 fuel with 50% No.1 fuel. This will provide
better protection from fuel gelling or wax-plugging of the fuel lters.

In extreme situations , when available fue ls are of poor quality or problems exis t whic h are pec ulia r to certain
operations, additives can be used. However, the engine manufacturer recommends consultation with the fuel
supplier or engine manufacturer before using fuel additives. Situations where additives are useful include:
A cetane improver additive can be used with low cetane fuels.
A wax crystal modier can help with fuels with high cold lter plugging points (CFPP).
An anti-icer can help prevent ice formation in wet fuel during cold weather.
An antioxidan t or storag e stability additive c an h elp with fuel system deposits and poor sto ra g e stability.
A lubricity enhancer can be used to increase the lubricity of fuels so that they meet the requirements given in the
table on the previous page. Diesel fuel conditioner is available from your Dealer.
