13.4.1 SIO Implementation
The System Management interface requires access to a serial port for out-of-band
operation and for alerts. The SMC can have its own dedicated UART and COM port on
the baseboard or it can be wired to share system resources. An SIO can be chosen with
the option of a serial port master, reducing parts and board real estate. In the circuit
depicted in Figure 122, the SIO must be on standby power for out-of-band operation.
The Development Board uses an SMSC SCH5027 SIO.
