topreventthesystemfromcompletingafurtherautomaticlinearizationin
thefuture.
Thisfeatureisparticularlyusefulforvesselsinenvironmentsthatareexposed
tostrongmagneticdisturbancesonaregularbasis(suchasoffshorewind
farmsorverybusyrivers,forexample).Inthesesituationsitmaybedesirable
tousetheCompasslockfeaturetodisablethecontinuouslinearization
process,asthemagneticinterferencemaybuildaheadingerrorovertime.
Note:
Thecompasslockmaybereleasedatanytime ,toallowthecompass
continualmonitoringandadaptationtore-commence.Thisisparticularly
usefulifplanningalongvoyage.Theearth’smagneticfieldwillchange
significantlyfromonegeographicallocationtoanother,andthecompass
cancontinuallycompensateforthechanges,ensuringyoumaintain
accurateheadingdatathroughoutthevoyage.
