Calibrationisanautomaticprocessandstartsafteryourvesselhasturned
appro ximately100°ataspeedofbetween3–15knots.Calibrationrequires
nouserinput,howeveratleasta270°turnisrequiredbeforethecalibration
processcandeterminethelocaldeviationandapplyarelevantoffset.
Thetimeittakestocompletethecalibrationprocesswillvaryaccordingtothe
characteristicsofthevessel,theinstallationenvironmentofthetransducer,
andthelevelsofmagneticinterferenceatthetimeofconductingthe
process.Sourcesofsignificantmagneticinterferencemayincreasethetime
requiredtocompletethecalibrationprocess.Certainareaswithsubstantial
magneticdeviationmayrequireextracirclesor“figureof8”manoeuvresto
beperformed.Examplesofsuchsourcesofmagneticinterferenceinclude:
•Vesselengines
•Vesselalternators
•Marinepontoons
•Metal-hulledvessels
•Underwatercables

Insomecircumstances,itisbeneficialtodisableR ealVisionAHRSif
localsourcesofmagneticinterferencearedistortingthesonarimage.
