.5UAVprecautions
OperatingyourUAVoverwaterandlaunchingandretrievingyourUAVona
vesselcanbeasignificantlydifferentexperiencethanwhenonland.
Thefollowingprecautionsshouldbefollowed:
•Y ouwillneedtobeanexperienced,competentpilotaslaunchingand
retrievingtheUAVonavesselismoredifficultduetoconfinedspaceand
vesselmovement/drift.
•OnlylaunchyourUAVincalmwindandtideconditions.Whenattempting
tolaunchorretrieveyourUAVyourvesselshouldbetravellingatless
than1knotandyourcaptainshouldbereadyatthehelmtobackdownor
maneuverthevesseltoavoidaccidentalcollisions
•MaintainawarenessofyourUAV’sbatterystatus,remainingflighttime,
distancefromyourvesselandWindandTideconditions.AUAVflying
againstthewindwillconsumebatterypowermorerapidlythanwhenflying
downwindorincalmconditions.Alwaysbudgetsufficientpowerreserves
toensurethesafereturnandretrievalofyourUAV.
•MaintainapermanentwatchofyourUAVwhileinflight.TheUAVpilot
orcompetentobservermustmaintainawarenessofsurroundingairand
marinetrafficwhiletheUAVisinflight.Thepilotmustremainreadyto
takecontroloftheUAVandmanuallyflyittoavoidinterferingwithother
vesselsoraircraft.
•WhileyourUAV’scontrollerisconnectedtoyourMFDitshouldbe
positionedsothatitmaintainslineofsightwithyourairborneUAV.Ifthe
controllerisnothandheldthenitmustbesecuredtopreventitbecoming
disconnectedfromyourMFDandtopreventunintentionalbuttonpresses.
