●Noisywaveforms.NoisyportionsofECGwaveformsare
typicallyexcludedfromanalysis.Theexclusionsare
necessarytoreducetheoccurrenceofinaccuratebeat
interpretationsand/orrhythmalarms.Iftheexcludednoisy
portionsoftheECGwaveformcontaintruearrhythmia
events,thoseeventsmayremainundetectedbythe
system.
●Beatamplitudeandduration.Accuratedetectionand
interpretationofbeatsbecomesincreasinglydifcultas
theamplitudeand/ordurationofthosebeatsapproach
thedesignlimitsoftheanalysisprogram.Thus,asbeats
becomeextremelywideornarrow,orespeciallyasbeats
becomesmall,arrhythmiainterpretationperformancemay
degrade.
●Othermorphologyconsiderations.Automatedarrhythmia
detectionalgorithmsaredesignedfundamentallytodetect
signicantchangesinQRSmorphology.Ifanarrhythmia
eventispresentanddoesnotexhibitasignicantchange
fromthepatient’spredominantmorphology,itispossible
forthoseeventstoremainundetectedbythesystem.
